BRUNSWICK, GA (May 3, 2024)- The recently installed St. Simons Island Community Orchard was symbolically unveiled at the Kings Park tennis courts, making it the first of Keep Golden Isles Beautiful’s community orchards outside of the Brunswick city limits. This latest orchard installation of 7 grapefruit trees was made possible by a Golden Isles Track Club financial contribution and joins a network of 12 similar orchards in Brunswick.
KGIB secured orchard funding, community partner Coastal Greenery sourced, secured and installed the citrus trees while Glynn County parks and recreation staff will water them and KGIB staff is in charge of fertilizing.
“KGIB is extremely grateful to the Golden Isles Track Club and local community partners for this latest orchard installation,” said Keep Golden Isles Beautiful executive director Lea King-Badyna. “We are excited to expand our edible orchard project into Glynn County and watch the orchard grow and produce nutritious offerings to park visitors.”
