BRUNSWICK, GA (October 13, 2022) – What do you get when you combine exercise, fun and litter removal?? Why, “Plogging” of course!
Plogging, which merges the words “jogging” and the Swedish phrase for pick up “plocka upp,” began in 2016 as an organized activity in Sweden and has quickly spread world-wide with countries covering the globe joining in this community betterment fun.
Keep Golden Isles Beautiful along with the Golden Isles Track Club are again bringing the plogging phenomenon to the Golden Isles with the November 5th third annual Trash Dash plogging event. This FREE event begins and ends at Massengale Park on St. Simons Island and welcomes all abilities of runners, walkers and joggers for an hour-long (or less if desired) trash pickup effort.
After the 8:30 AM registration and supply pickup, participants will collect litter while walking, jogging or running their own routes from Massengale Park and meet back with trash in hand.
“We are excited to again partner with the Golden Isles Track Club to offer a Plogging opportunity here in the Golden Isles and we greatly appreciate their sponsorship,” said Lea King-Badyna, KGIB executive director. “Runners/joggers/walkers of all levels and ages are welcome to join us in this fun community betterment activity.
