BRUNSWICK, GA - (March 31, 2023) – Keep Golden Isles Beautiful is distributing 200 “bucket gardens” to qualifying City of Brunswick residents thanks to a $15,000 grant from Wells Fargo.
The Brunswick Mobile Garden Project is providing underserved and disabled residents who are 65 or older with a vegetable or herb bucket garden for an easy to care for gardening experience.
Each recipient is receiving a planted bucket, watering can and care instructions. Participants were identified via the City of Brunswick’s Roosevelt Harris Jr Senior Citizens center, local churches and partnering organizations, focusing on those most in need.
Mobile gardens are beneficial because they don’t take up much space, little maintenance is required and fresh, nutritious vegetables or herbs are easily gleaned from the buckets.
City government, local churches and Keep Golden Isles Beautiful worked together for the project’s success, with Wells Fargo, Women’s Voices of Glynn County and Golden Isles FFA volunteers helping assemble the gardens.
“Keep Golden Isles Beautiful’s community project aligns with Wells Fargo’s mission to integrate sustainability across our business for our customers and our communities,” Wells Fargo regional banking manager Dwain Walcott said. “We are happy to fund this community project and excited to see its results.”
“While Phase I of this project focuses on city residents, plans are underway to expand the project to unincorporated Glynn County upon securing additional funds,” said Keep Golden Isles Beautiful’s executive director Lea King-Badyna. “We are grateful to Wells Fargo for enabling us to get this project up and running.”
