BRUNSWICK, GA (July 28, 2016) – In the continued promotion of cigarette litter prevention, the THIS IS LITTER TOO outreach program “coasts” into area pubs and restaurants for an August 5th cigarette litter awareness effort. Using THIS IS LITTER TOO branded drink coasters, participating local establishments will reach a targeted population with educational information discouraging the littering of cigarette butts.
Made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic, cigarette butts do not biodegrade and are the nation’s number one most littered item. “Partnering with local restaurants and pubs allows us to reach a designated audience with important cigarette litter messaging,” said Keep Golden Isles Beautiful executive director Lea King-Badyna. “This is a true community outreach effort with nineteen local establishments joining forces with Keep Golden Isles Beautiful and using 3,000 messaged coasters to educate Golden Islanders about cigarette litter.”
Participating pubs and restaurants include: Mullet Bay, Iguana’s Seafood Restaurant, Rafters, Cast Away’s Lounge, Murphy’s Tavern, Tipsy McSway’s, Brogen’s South, Brogen’s North, Gnat’s Landing, Tortuga Jack’s, Zachry’s, Coastal Kitchen, The Millhouse, Bubba Garcia’s, Bubba Up, Marshside Grill, Georgia Sea Grill, Marsh Point Bar and Grill Beachcomber BBQ.
A joint educational and outreach program with the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service, Georgia Sea Grant and Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, THIS IS LITTER TOO is funded via a Keep America Beautiful cigarette litter prevention program grant. The third such grant awarded to Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, the local THIS IS LITTER TOO program has garnered two Keep America Beautiful national awards.
