Rivers Alive & International Coastal Cleanup
Keep Golden Isles Beautiful partners with two ongoing water based litter prevention efforts: Rivers Alive and International Coastal Cleanup. Each Fall, Keep Golden Isles Beautiful volunteers perform special cleanups within the focus period of these two efforts and count specific littered items found.
RIVERS ALIVE is Georgia’s annual volunteer waterway cleanup event that targets all waterways in the State including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches and wetlands. The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia’s water resources. Rivers Alive is held annually each fall and is a program of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division Outreach Program.
INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP is the world’s largest volunteer effort for our ocean and waterways. Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of people, wildlife and local economies. In partnership with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe, Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup engages people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways, identify the sources of debris and change the behaviors.
