July 5th Beach Sweep Slated, Volunteers Needed

BRUNSWICK, GA (June 26, 2020) – Help keep the Golden Isles clean, green and beautiful and join in Keep Golden Isles Beautiful’s inaugural July 5th beach sweep!  Volunteers meet at the St. Simons Island Old Coast Guard Station beach crossover at 7AM on Sunday, July 5th to sign in and receive supplies (trash bags and gloves provided). Social distancing and disinfecting protocols will be observed.

Volunteers will concentrate on possible litter left over from Fourth of July nighttime merry-making. “While fireworks are prohibited on Glynn County beaches, volunteers will be prepared to remove even the smallest pieces of fireworks debris, preventing possible marine debris that can be harmful to marine life,” said KGIB executive director Lea King-Badyna.

Several major public access points will also be tackled in the effort. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.
