Cigarette Litter Prevention “Coasts” into Coastal Georgia for August 24th Event

BRUNSWICK, GA (August 03, 2018) – In the continued promotion of cigarette litter prevention, the GEORGIA’S COAST IS NOT AN ASHTRAY “drink coaster outreach effort” coasts into local pubs and restaurants on August 24th. Using GEORGIA’S COAST IS NOT AN ASHTRAY branded drink coasters, participating local establishments in Georgia’s six coastal counties will reach a targeted population with educational information discouraging the littering of cigarette butts.

Made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic, cigarette butts do not easily biodegrade and are the nation’s number one most littered item. “Partnering with local restaurants and pubs allows us to reach a designated audience with important cigarette litter messaging,” said Keep Golden Isles Beautiful executive director Lea King-Badyna. “This is a regional outreach effort with coastal establishments from Tybee Island to St. Marys joining forces in using 27,000 messaged drink coasters to educate locals and visitors about cigarette litter, with 8,000 of the drink coasters to be used in the Golden Isle alone.”

Participating pubs and restaurants include but are not limited to: Murphy’s Tavern, Tipsy McSway’s, Brogen’s South, Brogen’s North, Bubba Garcia’s, Bubba’s Up, Georgia Sea Grill, Marsh Point Bar & Grill, BeachComber BBQ, McGarvey’s Wee Pub beach, McGarvey’s Wee Pub, Buffalo Wild Wings, Castaways Lounge, Gnat’s Landing, Demere Grille, The Half Shell, Mullet Bay, Mellow Mushroom, Iguana’s, Rafters, The Beach House, Torguga Jack’s, Tree Bar at Bennie’s Red Barn, The Public House, Cilantro’s SSI, Toucan’s Ale House, Bromelli Brothers Pizza, Sal’s Pizzeria, The Westin, The Wharf, Jekyll Island Club Hotel, Corsair, Village Inn & Pub, and Strong Roots Provisions.
